Dinisha Ellis was born in Newport News, Virginia. She is a self-taught abstract painter. She has always had a special appreciation for bright colors, dots and lines. Since she was a kid she could be found sketching and doodling all the time. Recently, she discovered she enjoys painting too. Once she won a pumpkin carving contest by splashing it with neon paint and carving abstract designs into it. For this exhibit she was inspired by the works of Shinique Smith. Smith’s art is full of color and calligraphy that provokes meaningful thought. Dinisha’s exhibit is based on Shinique’s 2015 painting, Midnight in My Garden. This is Dinisha’s first time exhibiting her own work, but it will not be the last.
